I am a third generation retail jeweler. My grandfather, Joseph Menczer opened a jewelry store on East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx, New York in 1930's, and my father James continued in the family business. It was where I worked holidays and weekends.
Along with the wonderful jewelry in the store, there were always cats. It was said they were there to deal with mice, but looking back I truly believe they were there for companionship. As the photo shows, Kitty supervised my Grandfather with watch repairs.
Periodically one of the cats would get locked in the large walk-in safe. When my father would open the safe first thing in the morning to put out the jewelry, Kitty (they all seemed to be named Kitty) would greet him with reproach in her eyes.
So jewelry and cats always seemed to go hand and hand. I have always had cats in my life. I often say I was raised by cats. And I have some truly amazing Cat Jewelry.
While growing up along with cats there were lots of other animals around including rabbits, snakes, dogs, parrots, monkeys, chickens, horses. This collection includes sculpted animal necklaces, rings, earrings that truly capture the essence of each animal rendered. Also carved gemstone creatures, hand painted silver animals, and so much more.
Come back often to visit. Put this site on your favorites list, and be sure to sign up in my guest book. Send your animal loving friends. I will keep you appraised of new items as they become available.
